Flaconi und Urban Sports Club Alexander Jürgens Portrait

At regular intervals, we ask employees of our corporate clients what has changed since the introduction of Urban Sports Club membership in their company and how they personally benefit from sport benefit. This time we talked to Alexander Jürgens from Flaconi.

Hi Alex, would you like to introduce yourself?

I’m Alex and I work as a Campaign Analyst. I have been employed at Flaconi for two and a half years.

How do you manage to integrate sports into your working life?

I do sports regularly, I would say two to three times a week, especially after work.

And why are you doing sports?

Most of all to stay healthy, but I also see it as a way to compete with others. My main sport at the moment is thai boxing. I like the concept of competing and fighting with others through sport.

What effects does sport have in your life?

It definitely gives me energy and strengthens my health. I never had to log in the last 9 (!) Months. I have more energy in everyday life and feel fit, healthy and just totally good.

How would you explain Urban Sports Club to a colleague who has never heard of it?

I would say: Urban Sports Club is an app and you can conclude a sports membership with it. Urban Sports Club has partnerships with hundreds of different sports providers in Berlin and other cities. If you are a member, you can use all these different sports opportunities with just one membership.

Why did you decide to become an Urban Sports Club member?

Because of the number of different sports you can do with it. Apart from thai boxing, I am also interested in squash, swimming, badminton, table tennis and yoga. I pay for my membership once a month and can do as much sports as I want to. Even if I did sports every day, I would not have to pay anymore. And I like the flexibility! I can terminate the contract at any time. Many of my colleagues have registered with gyms and after two months, they find it no fun anymore. They are then trapped in the contract for 12 or 24 months. With Urban Sports Club you can cancel on a monthly basis.

Are there any sports you would have never tried if you were not an Urban Sports Club member?

Thai boxing actually … I only started after signing up with the Urban Sports Club.

So Urban Sports Club has helped you to find your new favorite sport?

Yes absolutely!

What do you think of doing sports with your work colleagues ?

I think it’s a great way to get to know your colleagues better. We used to have yoga classes in our company, which was really cool.

Why should the employer pay for their employees’ Urban Sports Club memberships?

As I said, since I signed up to Urban Sports Club, I’m hardly sick. I think it is a very good opportunity for the employer to invest in the health of employees. In addition, employees who do sports have more energy and can concentrate better and thus be more productive.

Yes, on average an employee has about 20 sick days a year.

And then compare the cost of 20 sick days with a monthly membership at Urban Sports Club 😉

How would you feel if you couldn’t use your Urban Sports Club membership anymore?

I would be pretty sad. I would have problems deciding where to become a sports member. Would I sign up for the Muay Thai course? Which one? Because I currently use different Thai classes in different schools. And if I still wanted to go to both schools without Urban Sports Club, I would have to sign up for two contracts and pay two fees. And if I wanted to meet friends for squash or whatever, I would have to pay each time. So it would be much more expensive for me in the end.
