What are your main tasks as Global Marketing Operations Manager at Urban Sports Club?
Marketing Operations means many things to many people, and the reason why there are so many definitions is because the role is continuously evolving. To me, the role of MOP is all about people, processes, platforms and the creation of processes to align people with platform usage. I divide my tasks into the following categories: MarTech management, campaign operations, building internal processes and marketing data. To summarize, marketing ops keeps things clean and shiny through design, process-management, governance of the B2B marketing stack, data syncs and campaigning. My main goal is to make sure systems operate efficiently by optimizing platform usage, troubleshooting, providing support, enabling users, actively managing databases of marketing sourced leads and delivering returns on time.
How did you end up working in the fitness industry? What do you love about it?
I got a scholarship and moved to Spain almost 5 years ago and did my MBA internship at a sports company. I’ve always wanted to work in organizations that make a positive impact on people’s everyday lives, and the fitness industry does just that. It’s also important I can connect with a company’s mission on a personal level as this motivates me to be my best every day. I’ve enjoyed sports all my life and have tried tons of different activities like ballet, yoga, taekwondo, cycling, gymnastics, swimming, tennis, running and more. I’m always open to new experiences and aim to expand my horizons and boost my mental and physical health by trying new things and spreading the word to as many people as possible.
What are 3 things you’d like to achieve in the next few years?
Over the next few years I’d like to improve my mental and physical health through a balanced lifestyle. I’d like to spend more quality time with my family, especially as I live abroad. It’s tough being apart from my loved ones, so quality time is a priority, no matter the distance. I also hope to continue developing my skills and sharing what I learn, which is directly related to my professional development as a Marketing Operations Professional. There are so many interesting areas to explore within my role and I want to continue learning and growing and then impart this knowledge to my team, friends, students and anyone who’s interested.
What’s important to you when it comes to collaboration within your team?
It’s crucial to set clear expectations, have empathy, have fun and share different abilities and skills so we can approach any problem from a variety of angles. Good collaboration doesn’t happen overnight but strong communication, respect and diversity will help build strong relationships within the team so we can work towards common goals.
Which Urban Sports Club value do you align with and which one do you find challenging?
I identify with all of Urban Sports Club’s values because I consider them part of my everyday life, but if I had to choose one it would be ‘surf on the wave of change.’ I’ve been through so many changes, it’s made me very open minded, flexible, and able to adapt to new situations. Change is an inherent part of life so I don’t see any use in resisting it. A value that I find challenging is ‘put yourself in the shoes of others.’ As we all have different backgrounds, roles and experiences, this is an exercise in empathy and takes real time and dedication to truly understand what’s going on in other people’s minds. But I believe that being willing to understand what drives or challenges others is definitely worth it!
